Cruises Are Fun

Got back from Leadership School. I might update you later? I will try, but if you can't tell yet, it's hard for me to be consistent.

Pictures - 2

Here are some pictures from the past year and and such. I took a photography class last semester...and I know it's really stereotypical but my interest in the visual arts have really grown since then. I've done like, two film sets since I started the year, and I think it's definitely something I want to do a lot more of.

It's not a situation of "I went to school to be a writer, and now I want to make films.", because I still love being a WLP, but...I really want to involve myself with more films.

I'm only going to do four pictures at a time I guess...that way I don't exhaust myself.

I like clouds.

Butterfly!

Summer lovin....

This one's funnier with context...which I won't provide. I think it makes for a nice image regardless though.

When I was 10

I'm not even sure if I'd like myself from when I was 10...I doubt it. I think my 10 year old self would like what I've become though. I had a vision for who I wanted to be back then, and while I'm not perfect, I did an alright job in living up to that.

This is a letter I wrote to myself at 10. I'm not sure how much would hold true, or I'd want to keep, but a semester ago, it's what I thought I'd want to say.

Dear Samuel Tang,

Hey kid...do you like being called kid? I don't remember. I don't remember a lot of stuff from when I was 10, truthfully. You're in...what, fifth grade? Yeah, life is hard right now, isn't it. Blake Ingram is going to be difficult, and just so you know, he'll want to play cello today. But it's alright because in two years , he'll be gone. So will a lot of your current friends though.

You're going to get contacts soon too, and you're going to think they're incredible. And you're going to think that without your glasses, people are going to like you a little more. Maybe it was a contributing factor, but I'm not convinced. There's more in you than you know right now. But you're not going to need it for a while. Your potential, I guess is what you would call it. It'll burst up, like short sparks of electricity. You'll use it when you're pushed but control won't come for a while.

Just don't worry so much. I know it's hard, but really. Enjoy who you are, where you are. There's something fun everywhere. Your cello, Mrs. Masterson next year, Ms. Spencer this, Coach Doyle two years from now, and Coach Peach in four. They're fun people, enjoy them.

But keep a check on your temper, work on your anger. Your temper is unstable and usually ends with regrettable consequences. Your anger is strong, steady, and will always be there. You can rationalize with your anger, make the right decisions because you won't just explode. Believe me, in two months you'll be stand partners with Blake Ingram. Anger will be the only thing keeping you alive.

With Love,
Sam Tang

P.S. I guess I remembered more than I thought.

Word.

So...it's been while since I posted, I hope this finds my fan base well. And by fan base, I mean...well, no one.

Some updates, I'm looking to do things more...officially this semester. I'm in a lot of organizations, I have a lot of opportunities to get my name out there, and I want to take them seriously. I'm looking at a couple of internships, and one way to get a foot above the rest of the crowd is by presenting oneself better. So, I'm actually setting up my LinkedIn profile, because who knows whose looking on that site, I'm probably going to start putting this blog actually out there for people to see...who knows, it'll be fun.

That aside, here's a writing update. I have a journal that's filled with stuff I've written on the side, and I've done nothing with it so far. So, since this blog is mainly for me, I thought I'd put some stuff up.

This is a prose sestina that I attempted to write for my Nonfiction class. One of the essays that I'm currently working on was inspired by this, and I'm considering revising this for more serious usage. (This is the rough version that I wrote directly into my journal.)

Party Time

This house is so packed, fucking terrible. I'm glad I'm already drunk or I'd probably cry everytime I went downstairs. One shot, two shots, I laugh at the people who have to pay for them; I know people. Some girl bumps into me, gives me a look that looks like she wants to cut me. She comes to me, bitching and shit, I tell her to go die. I'm so fucking tired.

You'd be tired too if the first thing you did was rage after you got back in town. Everyone treats me terribly whenever I ask them how they're doing. Normally I tell them I'm with the house, but if they're too rude I tell them I'm security and to go die. This one girl was crying when I came up to her. "I don't know you" she said, her drunken stupor cutting down the wariness of her statements. Her eyes, shot and wet, pleaded to leave, to be in a situation she understood.

I go downstairs, one shot, two shots later, I'm having fun again. My friends, not my brothers, say they're tired, they're going to get a cab. Splitting it will cut down on the price. They ask me to come; I tell them that it's a terrible idea. I'm having a great time, the weeping hasn't begun yet, and to not worry so much. They leave and they could be dead for all I care.

Death has come, all the beer is gone and I want people to start leving. The guys in the house start to hand out free shots so people stay a little longer. Someone broke Ari's bubbler and we're all about to cry. More people decide to leave saying they're tired when they really don't want to take responsibility. I'm still working door and people start coming up to me saying this party is terrible. I tell them that if they don't step off, "imma cut a bitch"

Like a knife through butter, my words slice through their drunken ignorance. They contribute to the dying party while some more people want to be in just to be in. The situation becomes more and more terrible as more people tell me they know someone in the house. It's been so long since I've stopped caring, if it wasn't for the shot of peace and pure friendship that I had during the afterparty, I'd be gone. And that's the one thing I never tire of. This brilliant relationship I have with the guys who live in this house, no crying or drama needed

My other friendships involved so many tears, so much sobbing. I've long cut myself off from most of those friends, I tired of their bullshit, they got sick of my insolence. I've willed death upon death so many times that I've made positive I have no magic power whatsoever. I'm on the phone, calling a friend for a shot to recover our friendship. Response is what I expected; I drop him like a bad habit and I feel terrible.

But I'm tired of crying over other people. Regardless of how terrible it seems, cutting them off is the only option. I start to feel like death again, when Evan hands me a shot.

So yeah, that's the start of something more. It's pretty awful right now, but it's mine.

Thanks and peace out.

New Stuff

So it's been a while. Whatever. I'm probably going to turn into one of those blogs where every other post is an apology for not posting more. Right now, I don't care that much.

Just an update on the life though, a lot of stuff has been changing. There is a lot of stuff that's going on and I see a lot of things starting with brand new beginnings next year. It's good things, really really good things.

Also in this vein, I'm starting this new essay, which may just become an addition to one of my other essays that I haven't put up yet. This is some of the beginning, tell me what you think?

"When I grow up, I want to be popular." That was always my birthday wish, or my wish upon a star, or my blow out this dandelion in one breath wish. To me, being popular was synonymous with being happy. Popularity didn't become an issue for me until I had switched schools and found myself at the bottom of the social ladder. I was out of place, had big glasses, and was extremely socially awkward.
It took a while for me to put a name to the problem. I couldn't figure out why I never talked to anyone during lunch, or why it was always difficult for me to find someone to be partners with during group projects, or why I found myself, on most recesses, walking along the patch of trees that lined the soccer fields by myself, narrating a story where I was interesting and funny and good-looking.
During lunch, after I had finished my meal and talked to no one, I started to observe some common trends. I saw that there were kids who didn't look like they were sitting by themselves. In fact, those kids looked like they were talking to people, had friends and were happy. I then noticed that there were other kids like me who looked very much alone. They did not look like they were talking to anyone else, or had friends, or were happy.
During class, after I had finished reading the selection and finishing the problems (I was usually the first), I began to notice that the same kids who looked like they had friends in the cafeteria, looked like they had friends in the classroom too. They were the kids who always took the longest to finish, but then I noticed it was because they were always talking to someone sitting next to them.
During recess, it all came together. I saw that the same kids who looked happy at lunch and in class, were the ones that always got picked for games or soccer. They were the kids who everyone else wanted to talk too. They were my first physical representation of popularity.

le Blah adorable

The "blah" part of the title is my apology for not posting recently. You'll hear it a lot as I'm irresponsible and have a very guilty conscience, so I should just reinforce now that all apologies and such will quickly become boring.

That being said, the adorable part of the title is for my most recently viewed movie, Amelie! This movie is incredible. Every shot is absolutely gorgeous, and the actors are simply great. The intricacies of the entire world that is created in this Parisian world is outstanding and I love it. I especially love the lead couple, Audrey Tautou and Mathieu Kassovitz. These two are great actors and their characters in this are both hilarious lovable. I know this is a movie that's been around for a while, but if you haven't seen it, make it a priority.

This is Awful - I

From time to time, I come across some things that are simply awful. They can vary from amusing to disgusting, but they are always awful. Now that I have a place to share, I'll be making a point to spread the word about these simply awful items.

This comes from youtube with thanks to the user everythingisterrible.
